Cara in the Land of the Midnight Sun
I've made two wonderful new friends! Last Autumn an e-mail arrived from a Mrs Karlsson in Sweden asking about Maenan Cara, and a super new friendship was born. Yvonne fell in love with Cara's photo on the website and felt she would fit in perfectly at her stud. When I popped onto Yvonne's site to check I could see exactly what she meant. Have a peep at http://hem.passagen.se/poninas and you will see how our blonde bombshell must look as if she has always been in Sweden! Then the long journey began. Cara had been orphaned at five weeks old and I have to confess has been spoiled as a consequence. We have always insisted on manners but it's so easy to be very protective of her. She'd only ever been off our premises once but away she went with Owen Jones Nebo Stud to spend two weeks in West Wales while paperwork etc was sorted and then she set off on her long journey to her new home. Mary Jones at Nebo was kind enough to keep us posted as to progress and I waited anxiously to hear that Cara had arrived safely. Her first stopping off place in her new country was in Gothenburg and Yvonne was there to meet her. It says a great deal about the kind and efficient transport provided by Owen that Cara was fit and happy when she arrived and not too tired to spook at all the 'monsters' she could imagine hiding on the way to her stable! After a few days Cara moved on north almost to the Arctic Circle. Yvonne got home before her and Lotta, Yvonne's daughter and actual owner of Cara, went off to collect Cara and bring her back to her new home. The e-mail Yvonne sent was just wonderful. She said that she heard the girls coming back into the yard and went out to meet them. Lotta's eyes were shining brightly as she said she thought she now owned the most beautiful pony in the world and that she was everything she had ever hoped for. Every breeder hopes their customers will be pleased with their purchase and those words meant the world to us, knowing that our pony was in safe hands, loved and appreciated. Cara has made a new horsey friend there and is lapping up all the attention she is getting! At this time of year there is only daylight for three hours a day and the temperatures are in minus double figures day and night. I think is says a lot for the adaptability of Welsh ponies that Cara has settled in so well and takes everything in her stride. On New Years Eve with all the fireworks going off Yvonne went out to check and there was Cara standing serenely in her stable perfectly happy, not fazed at all. Good luck Cara and your new family. We at Maenan wish you all the luck in the world for the future and look forward to hearing your showing results. Be Lucky!
