Our senior stallion, Rhosymeirch Surprise was first in the Section C stallion rating and 6th stallion overall at the Welsh Pony and Cob Society performance awards. His very capable and tolerant pilot, Nicky McCardle came to down to us and we travelled up to Kenilworth for the presentation in December. It was a lovely afternoon out and many thanks go to Nicky for getting Surprise to this level, and the organisers for arranging such a pleasant afternoon. It was great to see some of the youngsters in our Society getting some recognition. We oldies mustn?t forget that when we get to decrepit these children will be the guardians of the ponies we love so much. We were particularly thrilled to see Laura Collet and Glenwood Caradog pick up so many accolades, as Caradog was bred by some very good friends of ours, John and Betty Collorick. It was a joy to see John collect the breeder?s award. I first knew John and Betty many years ago when we used to bumble around the local shows. They have never had a huge stud but my word what quality! Talk about a good eye for a pony. The number of times they have found ?any ugly duckling? and realised the potential is awesome. Never ?flash? but quietly producing and breeding many champions, they have a depth of knowledge of horsemanship and bloodlines we should all be envious of.
