Update on Cara

Cara was orphaned at five weeks old when we suffered the heartache of losing our darling Menai Carema, foundation mare of Maenan Stud. It was such a sad time for us and worrying also with Cara so dependent on us. We needn't have worried! If ever a survivor was born, it was Cara! She took to bucket feeding as if she had always fed that way. I really think she was born old and knowing. It was almost as if she sensed right from the start that she wouldn't have her mother for long. We tended her and fussed her and we may have created a monster. She's sassy, beautiful and knows it. Little madam! We were of course concerned about how she would thrive having lost mum and were wondering if she would grow big enough. She'll never be as big or have as much substance as her mother, who was a really big scopy mare with loads of bone, but she has come on leaps and bounds and has all the makings of a very successful show filly. She will suit some judges better than others but then that applies to most ponies doesn't it? She's rugged up, tarted up and waiting to show so lets keep our fingers crossed. Just to make her even more big headed, she was recently featured as pony of the week on the Welsh Pony and Cob Society website. We haven't actually told her about it as her ego is hard enough to live with as it is!
