At the Sales

I do love a bargain. I knew full well I shouldn't even be considering buying another pony but hey that's never stopped any of us has it? We took off for Fayre Oaks with very little in our pockets but 'just going to look' (Yeh! Yeh!) We fell in love with a gorgeous little filly foal, Glyncoch bred out of Yaverland Nia and by Maesgwyn Hi Tec. I thought I'd have a little dabble. Into the sale ring she came and Terry nudged me in the back and said "She is so lovely! I owe my Dad some money which I was going to pay back this weekend, but he'll understand." That was it then, we were up to the heady heights of about ?600! Before I could get my hand in the air away rocketed the bidding and 'our' little foal was off to the Isle of Wight for ?1800. We do kid ourselves don't we? The following day was Hay on Wye Sale. Like lemmings, off we went again. I may do some daffy things sometimes (or quite often according to my family) but I do do my homework with catalogues. I had seen a little bay Section A mare called Glyncoch Trudy in the commercial section of the Hay catalogue that had sounded my sort and on checking again after Fayre Oaks I realised that she was half sister to the little foal we'd missed and in foal to that foal's father. As soon as I saw her in the pen at Hay I knew she was right for us. It was a long, long wait until she came into the ring but when she did she was soon headed home to Maenan Stud! She's such a beautiful little mare, with huge pools for eyes. The only drawback is there is an awful lot of 'wild Wales' in her. We're working on it and apart from snorting like a Dragon every time we go near her, she's beginning to come around. Only on her terms though! When we go out to catch her in the paddock she steals two carrots for free and then gives in and is caught on the third one. I wouldn't put money on the carrots working in a big field!
