In 1993 Richard
Miller (Heniarth Stud) rang to say he'd found a colt to change the face
of Maenan Stud - he wasn't joking!!!
Bred
by the late Mrs. Mary Stephens and her husband Vic Surprise has so consistently
given us foals of the highest quality we'd be hard pressed to find a replacement
for him - I reckon he'll be here for life!
Surprise
has had his critics because of his big white face, but everyone who has
had faith in him has been rewarded with prizewinning offspring, none of
them carrying too much white.
Ably
shown by Adam Fletcher (Dhanak Stud) as a yearling Surprise was Supreme
Champion Horse at Kington Show beating many well know Champions from Shetlands
to Hunters to Shires, quite an achievement for a 'baby'! He was second
at the Royal Welsh in 1995, has been third at Lampeter twice, and third
at Glanusk along with numerous other wins and championships. (I'm not
ashamed to admit I love him to bits!)
