In
the early 1980s I visited Menai Stud in Wales, fell in love, and the roller
coaster ride began.
His name was Menai Fury, a glorious Section C stallion with all the personality
in the world! Shortly afterwards Jack Everitt (Merioneth Stud) bred a
superb colt by Fury out of his Royal Welsh Champion mare, Chalkhill Dragonfly,
called Merioneth Storm.
In 1983 I bought him a wife. Whilst 'Shopping' at Menai Stud I saw a beautiful
mare called Menai Caryl, but no amount of arm bending would persuade Peter
Jones to sell her to me. When we got back to the yard I began to nose
around the stables and check out the foals.
One particular dun filly really caught my eye. When I asked Peter about
her I couldn't understand the amusement in his eyes until he told me she
was Caryl's daughter!
